Choose from a variety of adaptable dog behavior training programs tailored to your family!
Based in Astoria, NY, I specialize in behavior modification for the pet dogs of NYC. I utilize progressive, kind dog training methods that are effective and thoughtful. The training protocols I use come from ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) practices, with a primary focus on emotional wellbeing. I am very good at tailoring training for you and your family - no two situations are the same, and I have a lot of protocols in my toolbox! My niche is fearful and aggressive dogs, but I can support a myriad of behavior concerns from potty training to leash walking. I work with all breeds, ages, and sizes of dogs, and primarily see clients in Queens and Brooklyn, NYC.
In 2011 I graduated with distinction from the Karen Pryor Academy and am very proudly a Certified Training Partner. I'm a Fear Free certified professional, which means I have training in how to make our sessions as emotionally safe as possible for your dog. I volunteer my services to several rescue groups, as well as low income families in NYC. In 2016 volunteered and contracted with the Rikers Rovers dog program on Rikers Island. In 2018 I began working with NYC Animal Care and Control to offer group classes and private sessions free to the public through their Community Pets Program. I was interviewed for the New York Times at the start of the pandemic. I sat as an expert witness on a dog bite case, handled several dangerous dog cases with the DOH, worked for a veterinary behaviorist clinic, and attended dozens of workshops, expos, and lectures on dog behavior over the years. I continue to stay on top of current news, publications, events, and programs in the field.
I will never ask you to do something painful or purposefully stressful to your dog. You are always welcome (and encouraged!) to ask questions. Dog training with me is focused on being gentle with yourself and your dog. You're both going to learn a lot of new skills and be supported as you make better and better choices. Our job as the humans is to set your dog up to succeed, my job as your coach is to set you up to succeed. We'll focus on your priorities and what's important to you.
I'm an excellent dog trainer, and I'm even better with people. You'll always have my utmost respect. Your needs and quality of life are my priority. Living with spicy and sensitive dogs can be very challenging and emotional. As much safety as we give your dog to have big feelings, you have that space as well.

From our first session with Ettel, we knew she understood Gunther, and could help us support him. Ettel is incredibly knowledgeable about dog behavior, responsive to her clients, and overall, a kind person. Ettel has helped us work with Gunther's energy and keep him, us, and others safe. Ettel has also allowed us to better understand Gunther, and respond appropriately to his behaviors. We are all happier and healthier because of her!
