Ettel has helped us achieve what we thought was impossible. Ettel was recommended to us by our veterinarian for our 7 year old puggle, affectionately named Puggy. After years of living in the suburbs, Puggy was having a difficult time adjusting to apartment living. He had a history of behavioral issues which seemed to intensify in his new environment. He showed aggressiveness towards other dogs in our building, on daily walks, and generally towards strangers that approached him without warning.  We had worked with other trainers previously and we did not see marked improvement. With hard work and dedication, we are extremely pleased with the outcome of our training with Ettel. Puggy has made tremendous progress and is much calmer on walks and with strangers. Ettel was more than a trainer; she was our coach and mentor. She really cared about Puggy’s overall health and well-being. She even helped him to lose 20 lbs by recommending a new diet and exercise regimen. Ettel also worked with our other dog, Fiji, who had separation anxiety from us and when separated from Puggy. Fiji is now more confident being on her own. We couldn’t have done all of this without Ettel’s patience and expertise. We are so glad that we get to continue seeing Ettel through her boarding services. Our dogs have grown to love her company, and that’s more than we could have ever asked for in a trainer and caregiver.

We feel so fortunate to have found Ettel.  Our rescue, Rudy, had started exhibiting some territorial aggression and resistance to being handled.  We had done a basic introductory obedience course somewhere else, but had found that their dominance-based technique was not working for us or for Rudy.  Within minutes of our first meeting with Ettel, she was diagnosing things about Rudy that we had never even known to look for but that totally made sense based on his behavior.  She taught us how to read his body language to gauge his comfort level, and gave us simple exercises to work on with him in small baby steps in order to gradually change his reaction to triggers.  The improvement has been dramatic.  His territorial aggression has basically disappeared and he is so much more comfortable with us handling him when we need to put on his harness, etc.  He is clearly a much happier dog, and we are much happier owners.  We are so grateful for Ettel's patience and understanding.  We really felt like she cared about us and Rudy, and was invested in helping us.

Ettel is the legitimate dog whisperer. We have been working with Ettel since Pepita came to us over two years ago.  Ettel walked us through the puppy stage and now the grown up stage.  She has a fantastic ability to know what the dog needs and what the family needs.  My two kids love Ettel and have learned from her how to read Pepita’s behavior, mood, and intentions.  Pepita, needless to say, loves her to death and has a welcome party for her every time she comes (several times per week).

In addition to training, Ettel also does dog boarding for us.  Having Ettel has made it so easy for us to go away since we know Pepita is having a blast at Ettel's sleep away camp!

I heard about Ettel from a friend who adopted a dog from the country.  The dog was having lots of behavior issues with city crowds, noise, and stairs! Ettel worked with the dog and in no time, all her fears disappeared.

We love Ettel!!!

Ettel was recommended when we rescued Gunther, our one-and-a-half-year-old pitbull and American bulldog-mix, from Rescuzilla. Gunther is a sensitive dog, and gets over aroused easily. My partner Pat and I noticed that we were Gunther's primary targets for his mouthy energy. From our first session with Ettel, we knew she understood Gunther, and could help us support him. Ettel is incredibly knowledgeable about dog behavior, responsive to her clients, and overall, a kind person. Ettel has helped us work with Gunther's energy and keep him, us, and others safe. Ettel has also allowed us to better understand Gunther, and respond appropriately to his behaviors. We are all happier and healthier because of her!

Ettel Edshteyn is the best dog trainer you will ever have the good fortune to work with.  I had just had a baby and needed someone to take my year-old German Shepherd for some extra walks, and maybe learn some manners on the side.  What I didn't realize was that she was going to transform Frisco, whom we so often referred to as "bananas" into a dog with whom we are proud to walk down the street; one who people often stop us to comment on his good behavior.

Not only is Ettel well-studied, but her instincts are remarkable, and her problem-solving skills are mind-boggling.  No matter what I throw her way, Ettel always has an immediate suggestion, rooted in her acute understanding of the canine species and training fundamentals.  How someone this gentle commands such respect is a lesson for all of us, four and two-legged, alike.

My husband Steven and I decided to introduce a new member into our family. At 6 weeks old we picked out Mamba, a beautiful Cane Corso Mastiff. Before bringing our little girl home we did our research but it wasn't enough to prepare us for the unexpected. Mamba was very shy and didn't show confidence in herself. She was a puppy with so much potential and all we wanted was to bring out the best in her.

We found Ettel Edshteyn online through reading wonderful testimonials and were excited to start dog training with her. Before the training Mamba had difficulty with commands, was very territorial when visitors came over the house, didn't know her limits while playing with other dogs and house breaking. We had all the tools but we just needed some guidance with Mamba.

Each session that went by we noticed a wonderful change in Mamba. Through the exercises that Ettel taught us we found that in time Mamba had a breakthrough. She was doing A LOT better with having accidents in the house, she was behaving much better when walking her and got along better with people and other dogs.

Mamba would not have reach this point if it wasn't for the guidance and patience Ettel had with us.....Thank You for everything.....-

When we first adopted our dog Blu, he was too scared to go up & down the stairs to get to our apartment on the 2nd floor.  He wasn't house broken, chewed furniture, and was scared of traffic noises and bikes. While I loved him from the start, there  were moments when I questioned if getting a dog was a good idea. With Ettel's training and assistance, over the past few months he has blossomed into such a bubbly and happy dog. He  has built his confidence immensely, significantly corrected problem behavior, and is such a love bug. He is a favorite of  many of our neighbors and was one of the best behaved members of our wedding party last month.

There are plenty of walkers out there who like dogs and are capable of doing a walk. I feel that the difference with Ettel is  that she really invests in his well-being and is a very capable and dedicated problem solver. None of our questions  seemed to stump her, as she is clearly very experienced with canine behavior. Her calm demeanor and genuine concern  have been invaluable to his development. Best of all, her tactics are gentle, humane, and easily teachable.

We have also utilized her boarding service and she is the only person I feel completely comfortable leaving my dog with.

Ettel has a true gift with animals and with people. Her patience and affection with all things furry truly sets her apart – my dogs see her and their whole bodies wag.

Ettel has a true talent with people as well. Rather than just training my dogs, Ettel has trained me to train them so that I can work with them all the time. Prior to meeting her, I subscribed to the same “traditional” training methods my parents used, but never felt entirely comfortable with those methods, I always felt a little guilty using force (pushing the dog’s bum down to sit, pulling on his leash to heel, etc).

Learning to clicker train my dogs has been fantastic – training sessions are fun for me and them, and the sessions have turned from being a chore into bonding experiences. My dogs now initiate training, and I have to stop them because I’m tired, not because the dogs have lost interest.

Ettel understands me and my dogs, and I’m completely grateful for her.

Ettel came to us very highly recommended. My year old Coton du Tulear, Gracie, had begun to growl at people on our walks plus she picked up anything she could get her little mouth on in the park. As soon as I met Ettel I knew everything would be fine. Her calm energy and assurance combined with her astonishing knowledge of canine behavior made me completely confident that Gracie and I would be fine. Ettel's suggestions made perfect sense. After just a few days I began to see changes in Gracie's behavior. After only a couple of weeks I was able to throw food at Gracie, leave the room and she wouldn't eat it until I came back and gave it to her. A miracle! Her behavior on walks has changed dramatically. I have already recommended her to other dog owners who see how well Gracie is doing. I'm very grateful to have found Ettel and know that if I need any help in the future, she's there.

Without Ettel, I don't know if I would still have my sanity and Rally would still be here today. Her quiet confidence immediately drew Rally to her in an agility class nearly four years ago. Since then, her calm, positive approach to helping my very sound sensitive, sometimes fear-aggressive whippet-lab mix cope with the terrors of NYC has given me hope and brought be closer to my pup.

Her love for Rally and all dogs is so evident it's felt by all when she walks into a room. I would (and have) trusted her with Rally for training, walking, boarding, and unexpected or emergency situations.

Thanks for all you do, Ettel!

Since Ettel started walking our pit bull mix, Cheerio, we have noticed that he is a happier, more balanced dog.  Not only does he receive additional exercise during the course of the day, but he also has the benefit of walking with an experienced dog walker and trainer. Ettel has instilled walking habits in Cheerio that he carries over into our walks with him. He'll do things like look at us when another dog walks by, not because we told him to, but because Ettel does! The change has been truly amazing. Thank you, Ettel!

We've boarded our dog Beethoven with Ettel several times. He comes back happy, healthy, and better behaved each time. The first time we boarded with Ettel, we mentioned some problem behavior, and she worked on these behaviors with him. Beethoven has seldom jumped up since we returned, is coming when called, and is even chasing the cats less.

I really appreciate the wonderful care Ettel provides Beethoven. She looks after him like he were her own pet. When I'm on vacation I never have to worry about Beethoven because I know he is getting the *best* care imaginable.

I have worked in pet rescue for over twenty five years, screening people to make matches made in heaven. Then when my turn came to find someone to help with my brand new dog rescued from a shelter, I was a wreck. Who would rescue us? Cliche as this sounds, Ettel is the fairy godmother of dogs. Ask mine, he will tell you it was love at first sight. Long story short, these were the problem areas: Romeo was terrified. He wouldn't make eye contact. He wouldn't eat. If only I could bottle Ettel! But of course, she took care of that one too by teaching me exactly what to do. She never leaves you thinking you won't be able to follow through. In other words, she's a gifted teacher. For me, it was the best of both worlds. Because of her I've got my pet parenting skills.  And like any proud parent I have to say my dog's an Einstein!

We have had the pleasure of working with Ettel on a daily basis for nearly two years and could not be happier. Ettel walks and trains my two Ruby Cavaliers. We find her to be wonderful in every way. She is fantastic with the pups. They adore her, respect her, and can't wait to see her each day.

She is as reliable as can be, showing up every day, rain or shine, to walk and train the pups. She is even loved by the doormen in our building, who also sing her praises for how lovely and professional she is to have around. In addition to helping train the pups, she in many ways, helps us raise them too. Each day she leaves a detailed note about how the walk/training was and how the dogs seemed. She keeps an eye for any issues she might see and has been a great help in watching for health and behaviour issues so that we can be on top of them.

We feel very fortunate that we found her, and hope that she will be with us for years to come. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a trustworthy, professional, reliable, talented dog-lover to help care for their pet. Thank you Ettel! Best, E.C.
